New Addition to the Notchtopping Family

by TopNotch on March 3rd, 2010

Mr. & Mrs. Notchtopping are pleased to announce the welcomed addition to their household of one Captain Janeway. On Wednesday, March 3rd 2010 they made official the Welcoming of American Short Hair feline Janeway.

Captain Janeway, aged about 5 years old, weighing in at 13 lbs and 4 oz., joins the Notchtopping pack and was welcomed by other feline cohabitants by way of ear lickings and anus sniffings. It wasn’t a total love-fest at first as there were a few bouts of fur swapping by Bilbo, followed by stalking from Pancho, but otherwise the Notchtoppings are happy as can be with the recent acquisition.

But the adoption really isn’t so recent. Janeway actually lived outside in the back yard for the past two years, and due to perseverance and a diligent attitude at gecko eradication, she won over the Notchtoppers. Mrs. Notchtopper stated “It’s about time we have another female in this male dominated house.  Janeway ought to bring a sense of balance”. Mr. Notchtopping replied “the Tinker Turd (AKA Tinker Turd, since they placed a collar on her 15 months ago, complete with a tinkling bell) has moved right in”.

Janeway was a local stray to the neighborhood, and was a participant of the”Spade and Release” program. Several of her siblings have been observed throughout the community over the years. She wandered into the Notchtopping back yard in the fall of 2008 and decided to take up residence. Asked why, she replied “they seemed like good people. The indoor cats looking out the windows, watching my every move amused me. Truthfully, I grew tired of sharing my meals with the opossum and raccoon families.  After a heated argument with the Raccoon’s in February, I voiced my desire to move in.”

Janeway joins Bilbo, a possible Egyptian Mau & Abyssinian mix rescued from a Euthanasia shelter in Brooklyn NY in 2001; Pancho Villa, an American Short Hair Tuxedo rescued from the streets of Brooklyn NY in 2002; and Cooper, a potential Maine Coon rescued from Calloway’s Nursery in Farmers Branch, TX in 2007. When asked about her new siblings Janeway replied “There is work to do here, but it will get done”.

  1. Here’s hoping Captain Janeway doesn’t get the rest of the “crew” lost on the other side of the yard like her namesake :-)

ha! unlike her namesake, I think she is more like Kirk, willing to go where ‘no cat has gone before’, and always showed up right around supper time.

I totally enjoyed Captain Janeway’s slant on her new ‘digs’. The established feline’s reactions came across vividly, making one feel as if they were there witnessing the event. way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
